Word of the Week

Hob. Here, a hob (or stove) and an oven are often sperate units.

The first time we used the hob, it wasn’t that hard to figure out. We had an instruction page to help us out. The first time we used the oven (which we thought was gas, but now we are pretty sure is electric (boogie woogie woogie)), was not as easy. The oven had no instruction sheet and was not self-explanatory in any way. Thankfully, Hubby looked the manual up online and was able to figure it out.

The first meal we made in the oven was mac and cheese.  They have no boxed mac and cheese here – at least, not that we have seen in the store near us. But we did find that they have jars of sauce that you pour over uncooked pasta and bake it all in the oven. One of the sauces is a mac and cheese sauce. N seemed to like it the first time, but not the second. But since N has decided she doesn’t like cheese in general, I don’t think her opinion says anything about the sauce.

Speaking of N. Her birthday was yesterday, as many of you know. She is 5. It’s hard to believe it’s been 5 years since that 30 hour labor and exclamation of, “We have a daughter!” We took her to a place called Dreamland in Margate and a beach that was right across from it. After our hour and a half trek to Margate, we realized that Dreamland was actually closed. This was not obvious on the website. It turns out, there is a kids area, called Octopus’ Garden, right inside Dreamland. This was open. It was an indoor play area with all kinds of things. Dress up area, chalk, sand, under 3 soft play, puppets, and a soft big play area with slides and places to crawl through. The girls had fun. There was even a little cafe. Then we went to the beach. The girls had more fun. We weren’t very prepared for the beach and M was crazy sandy. We found a store and got her some dry clothes.

Pictures and videos to come.

Next week – Internet! Hopefully. We will celebrate with a post about a bit of parenting.
